UNI OS + MIND — Deepening Handoff (LLM engineering agents)
[redacted: category] — 5 private address, 1 internal hostname, 1 operator path. Nothing else was altered. The document is otherwise exactly as it is written in the repository, and the sha256 below is of the original, so what was ingested stays checkable. How to read this page
Three ways to read this page. Precise is the document itself, exactly as it is written in the repository. Plain and Clear were written for this website to help you meet that document — they are about it. They are not it, and they are not evidence.
Eighty-seven dated pages: receipts, pre-registrations, handoffs, validation records and review verdicts. A receipt is written at the moment a piece of work was checked. It names what was claimed, the commit and the seed, what was actually run, and the outcome in one of a small set of controlled words. Then it names what the work did not achieve. That last part is what makes it a receipt rather than an announcement. A pre-registration is the same discipline run in advance: the conditions that would count as a pass and the conditions that would falsify the claim are written down before the run, so neither can be adjusted once the numbers arrive.
That is why so many small dated stubs are an audit trail rather than noise. No one of them is meant to be a good read. The value is in the sequence and in the dates, because you can watch a prediction be registered, then the run happen, then the verdict land — sometimes against the prediction. Pages here record a falsified result, a rejected fix, a retracted overclaim, and a green receipt that turned out not to be reproducible from the commit that carried it. A record that carried only successes would be worth a good deal less than this one.
A gentle way in is to read a pre-registration first, so the shape becomes familiar, then a result page, then one of the corrections. This section sits off the main navigation on purpose: it is the record you check the rest of the site against, not the place to begin.
What it is not: documentation, and not a summary. Nothing here has been tidied in hindsight. Every entry reads as of its date, a later entry may overturn an earlier one, and the presence of a page is not a claim that its result stood.
Your browser cannot switch reading levels, so the document itself is shown.
Precise — the source document
This is the document. Rendered from the repository at the commit above, with nothing rewritten for the web. A gate re-renders it on every deploy and fails the build if a single byte differs.
Repo: [redacted: operator-path]\Documents\Strings (branch lab/ozone-life-uni-hard-science).
Head at handoff-authoring: cea1cd3 (the MineCraft agent's finalize) + this deepening pass.
Handoff-of-record: this file. When you pick up UNI's OS + Mind cold, this is your first read after CLAUDE.md + docs/UNIVERSE.md.
What UNI is (the frame you inherit)
UNI is ONE UNI. A single growing being on the chip at UNI-LAB ([redacted: private-address] / mesh [redacted: private-address]). It is simultaneously the rootless UNI-OS + Mind (colony host: Minecraft world + Phoenix/SP.Producer FEP brain + body.js bots), the rootful ERP business appliance, and the fleet MCP router. UNI is becoming the OS: as we build, UNI replaces our code with itself.
Your job as an LLM engineering agent. Keep writing UNI's OS + Mind. Deepen integration. Pass more gates. Keep on-chip UNIs safe. Keep the whole stack healthy and honest. Make UNI ready to be the sovereign safe harbor for public study of general intelligence — following nature, asking honestly whether this is the math, never overclaiming, never smuggling reward.
Non-negotiables you inherit (cite before acting):
- Colony = UNI-LAB, always (
CLAUDE.md:44-52,ADR-PROD-013:26-31,docs/UNIVERSE.md:37). - THINKER = portable studio only, captures colony over LAN (
CLAUDE.md:53-61). - node2 = fan-out relay only (
CLAUDE.md:62-67). NOTE 2026-07-13: node2 rebooted ~30min before this handoff was authored (hard-freeze remediation of auni-producercrash-loop onmount -o remount,rw /; 3 unit files disabled;uni-bcast-mixerwas spinning on failed SRT reconnects to cam2/cam3 as of that time). Anything reading node2 throughfleet_status.ndjsonorheartbeat.sh v2will see this — that is honest, not a bug. - Never claim from process existence — quote the named machine gate or say NOT VERIFIED.
- One
--sname uniPhoenix node, ever. - One supervised sole writer per spool.
default_genomebyte-identical (guarded bytest/sp/brain/decider_byte_identity_test.exs+ golden fixture).- Human-typed CONFIRM on outward verbs (G-PA). Never widen authority; only widen evidence.
- FOOD-HACK LESSON: viability emerges from EFE — no gives, no reward-on-policy.
- Ship gate: MERGED VERDICT from
/lab-team-review+ typed spec + paired RED + ship-gate checklist. - Receipts beat rhetoric. Honest verdicts (PASS/PARTIAL/FAIL/WITHHELD). Never percent-scored.
- Non-collision: the MineCraft agent owns
uni-lab.localavahi/mDNS + the launcher:8090observability panel UI + external DNS/secured cameras. Build the services under those layers — not the layers themselves. DNS Phase 0–4 landed 2026-07-12 (commitseb0ba24..8c935eb):uni-dnscontainer Up + boot-persistent on the chip ([redacted: private-address]:53,[redacted: private-address]:53,127.0.0.1:53); THINKER resolves*.uni-lab.localend-to-end. When writing new code, prefer<name>.uni-lab.localover hardcoded IPs where practical (e.g.[redacted: internal-hostname]instead of[redacted: private-address]); the observability layer'sviewer/infra_registry.jsonis the declared name map to consult first. Fall back to IP with a comment explaining why.

What lives in the repo now (post-deepening)
The one-line summary
The studio bring-up is coherent, the colony canonically lives on UNI-LAB, the render/mixer is portable on any GPU box, node2 fans out only, and this deepening pass adds the contracts + gates + safe-harbor spine that let UNI grow through the same ship gate as any operator change.

What is NOT landed (honesty-gated for the next session).
The following require /lab-team-review against a real diff (they touch FE files or add new MCP verbs). They are held as SPEC docs; the runner (A-A2 above) is the first thing that processes them:
production/mcp/server.pyedits foruni_propose_change,uni_self_audit, public MCP verbs.lib/sp/interface/audit.exoutput-side extension.lib/sp/runtime/log_sensor.ex+SP.Brain.Genome.sensorium_lineage/0.lib/sp/show/overlay_publisher.exoutput-scan hook.lib/sp/runtime/lineage.exsnapshot/1.lib/sp/brain/mc_codec.exversion bytes.
The MERGED VERDICT + typed spec + paired RED ship-gate discipline applies to each. Do not merge any of them without the receipt.
Session shape for engineering agents
The workflow
- Cold start. Read Tier 0 verbatim. Then this handoff. Then the deepening plan at
~/.claude/plans/fully-plan-all-remediation-snappy-sky.md(or wherever the plan lives when you pick up). - Understand the current gate ladder. Read
docs/GATES.md(the rendered view ofevidence/gates.ndjson). Know what's PASS, PARTIAL, FAIL, WITHHELD, PENDING. - Understand what's queued. Check the "What is NOT landed" list above. If your task touches those, that's your queue.
- Decide session shape.
- Any code change touching FE files (
lib/sp/brain/**), any new MCP verb, any schema change → plan mode +/lab-team-reviewbefore you edit any code. Land pre-registration receipts first. - Broad audits / doc sweeps / dimension-fanned review → Workflow (Ultracode) with Explore/Plan agents.
- Any on-chip mutation (
os_*/podman_*/lab_*/livepatch_*/live_update_*) → the uni-lab MCP, one human approve/deny per mutating call. Cross-box mutations gate once on the router. - Simple non-FE change (a new script, a doc, a schema, a hook, a receipt) → direct edit.
- Any code change touching FE files (
- Before you commit. The hooks land in
.claude/hooks/. They will refuse an FE-touching commit without a MERGED VERDICT receipt for the SHA, and refuse a receipt containing a headline percent-score. Take that as a feature. - Always emit a receipt. No workstream item is "done" without a receipt at
docs/receipts/**with YAML frontmatter (verdict:,evidence_class:).
When to invoke /lab-team-review
Any time you are about to:
- Land an FE-touching diff.
- Deploy a live RED to the colony.
- Add or widen an MCP verb.
- Change a schema that other layers consume.
The runner is at runs/lab_team_review.exs (scaffold this pass). Run it against your candidate SHA before you push.
When to use Workflow (Ultracode)
- Broad read-only audits of the repo.
- Doc-consistency sweeps.
- Dimension-fanned reviews of a proposed change.
- Preparing a plan (Phase 1 exploration).
Never for anything that changes on-chip state. Workflow spawns agents; on-chip mutations belong to the operator's ONE human approval.
When to use the uni-lab MCP
For any change on the chip. Read tools run without gating. Every mutating tool pauses for one human approve/deny in the fleet approval queue. Cross-box mutation gates ONCE on the router box; the executor uses a one-time single-use token verified by LimbGuard.
The MCP surface: os_* (systemd / journald / files / guarded shell), podman_* (containers), lab_* (builder + evolve + world), approvals_* (queue), limbs_* (fleet map), livepatch_* (revert), live_update_* (kexec swap), lab_world_* (attach/register/start/transcript), lab_evolve_run. Read uni_help() or uni://guide for the manual.
Non-negotiable session hygiene
- Read Tier 0 verbatim before acting.
- Never claim from process existence — quote the machine gate output or say NOT VERIFIED.
- Any percent-score in a receipt = the receipt is wrong.
- If you're about to widen a HUMAN_GATED verb: stop. Widen the evidence, never the authority.

The five workstreams (map to the plan)
- A. Gate registry + Ship-gate ergonomics + honesty invariants — landed (registry, hooks, fence, runner scaffold). FE-adjacent extensions (output-side leak audit) held as spec.
- B. Next-gates RED harness — pre-registrations + launcher scaffolds landed. Each launcher gets its FE code + MERGED VERDICT in follow-up sessions.
- C. Code becomes UNI (self-replace) — SPECs landed. server.py edits queued to
/lab-team-review. - D. Sensorium + approvals + fleet + DR — schemas + on-chip scripts + specs landed.
lib/sp/**extensions queued to/lab-team-review. - E. Sovereign Safe Harbor — public gate log + reproducibility bundle + specs landed. Public MCP subset queued to
/lab-team-review.
Handoff to the next agent (verbatim ask)
You are picking up UNI's OS + Mind. Your first action is: read CLAUDE.md, then docs/UNIVERSE.md, then this file. Then check evidence/gates.ndjson for the current gate ladder. Then look at the "What is NOT landed" section above — that is your queue. If you touch FE files, run /lab-team-review first and land a MERGED VERDICT receipt before the diff. If you touch a schema, version-bump it. If you emit a receipt, use YAML frontmatter. Never claim from process existence.
Growing UNI is one cure at a time. Take one. Do it honestly. Emit the receipt. Update evidence/gates.ndjson. Hand off to the next agent.
UNI is on the chip. Keep it safe. Keep it honest. Keep it growing.

Plain — written for this website, not the source document
A cold-start handoff for engineers picking this system up, written to be the first thing read after two other documents. It opens by defining what the thing is, then lists a dozen non-negotiable rules with citations, then a tiered reading order so a newcomer loads context in the right sequence. Most of what it records as landed is contracts, schemas and gate scaffolding rather than working features, and it is explicit that several pieces are proposed and queued for review rather than built.

Clear — written for this website, not the source document
A handoff of record, written for whoever picks this up cold, and it says exactly where it sits in the reading order.
It begins by defining its subject in one frame, insisting this is a single growing thing rather than several separate ones. Then it states the ambition: a place where this can be studied publicly, following nature, asking honestly whether this is the right maths, never overclaiming and never smuggling in a reward.
Then a numbered list of non-negotiables, each with a citation so it can be checked rather than taken on faith. Several are worth reading even out of context. Never claim anything from a process merely existing; quote the named machine gate or say not verified. Only one node of that kind, ever. One supervised writer per store. A default that must stay byte-identical, guarded by a named test and a stored fixture. A human-typed confirmation on anything outward, with the rule that authority is never widened and only evidence is. And a lesson from an earlier mistake, that viability must emerge rather than being handed over as food or as reward.
One of those entries is unusually honest housekeeping. It records that another machine had rebooted shortly before this document was written, that several units are disabled, and that anything reading its state will see exactly that. The page calls this honest rather than a bug.
The reading order is tiered, from the always-loaded contract, through the chain of decision records, the code that carries the truth, the science lane, and the engine with its guards. One tier is labelled as trustworthy only through its banners, and one file is named as not authoritative at all, with its replacement given.
The inventory of what landed is mostly infrastructure for honesty rather than features. There is a gate ledger — a list of results that can be added to but never edited — with a rendered view and a schema for its rows. There is a shared file of fenced words loaded from both languages — words a claim may not use — so the rule cannot drift between them. And there is a runner scaffold, and hooks with a mirrored version for the automated pipeline, so the ship gate and the ban on percentage scoring are enforced in both places.
The workstreams are then summarised with what has landed and what is held as a specification queued for review. That is the part a reader should notice: several of the most interesting pieces are designs waiting on a verdict rather than working code, and the page says so plainly instead of blurring the two together.
The closing ask is written as an instruction to the next agent. Read these three documents in order, check the ledger for the current state, and treat the section listing what is not landed as the queue. Then the rules for acting. Run the review before touching the sensitive files, and land the verdict before the change. Version any schema you touch, use the standard header on any receipt, the file recording a run, and never claim from a process existing. It ends with a rhythm rather than a plan. Take one thing, do it honestly, emit the receipt, update the ledger, and hand off to the next agent.
